Milestones to Farnham – The Bagshot Road

The road from Farnham to Bagshot was an important route in the 18th and 19th century and part of the Winchester Turnpike formed in 1753 from Basingstone, near Bagshot (the modern day junction of the A30 and A325), via Farnham to Alton and beyond to Winchester.
There was one toll gate on the road, the Frimley Toll Gate, and one gate/bar at Heath End.

Of the ten milestones on this road, seven still exist.

The One Mile milestone (1 mile to Farnham, 11 miles to Bagshot, 37 miles to London and 27 miles to Winton)
This still exists at the north-west end of the Six Bells Roundabout on the old line of Hale Road which is now by-passed and has become a cul-de-sac.
